The problem with evangelism today
Several years ago I watch an interview with Leonard Ravenhill. It was his last interview before this dear prophet of God went home to be with the Lord. He got to talking about a giraffe being born. From the beginning of the birthing until the baby giraffe was actually born took 14 hours. He went on to say it only takes 5 minutes for us get born again in the spirit.
My view is this, our church evangelism is to organized. Think about this for a moment. When we enter the front doors to our church, we meet and greet for a few moments before sitting down on the pews. Then there might be a few announcements, before the worship service. After the worship service comes the sermon. Then the alter call if there is one. Then that concludes our service for the day.

Below is my own testimony: When it comes to evangelism in the church it goes something like this:
I know when I was born again I came down to the alter and repeated what the pastor prayed in the sinners prayer. A few weeks after that I was baptized and became a member of the church. The problem with this is that I didn’t feel any different than when I entered the doors before service started. except maybe a little embarrassed with over 60 people coming down to shake my hand.
Now you shouldn’t go by feeling at all. The Bible plainly states that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, you are saved Romans 10:9. I was unclear about being born again. I have never heard of this before. I grew up in the Mormon church and wasn’t up on new testament lingo. And like most early children and early teens, I just did not pay attention.
The problem that we face today is what I like to call fast food evangelism. Church evangelism is like a fast food worker. Doing a job a trained monkey can do. Mindlessly following simple instructions to consistently pump out mediocre food. When this happens we see many new converts fall away from the church within a year or less because most are not properly discipled. We just don’t take time to make sure that the person making a decision for Christ is truly saved.
Am I wrong?

When I drove out of the parking lot of the church after revival service, I decided to find out what it really meant to be saved. I read over a half a dozen scriptures and concluded that I was truly born again. Thank God that in the back of my bible it had a 90 day discipleship program that I followed everyday.
Instead I think that church evangelism needs to be more like a chef who manages a high-class restaurant. A chef is an artist that uses some inner skill that cannot be explained. This inner skill is the missing ingredient with church evangelism. It is actually 2 ingredients; the Holy Spirits guidance (or trust in his unctions) and good old fashion discipleship training.
I have met people that came to Christ because they wanted joy, peace and loving kindness but instead found that the devil was coming against them and received tribulation instead of triumph. I think that we need to spend a lot more time with new Christians and make sure they know what they are being saved from and lets get away from fast food evangelism and let new converts dine at the masters table with the meat of the word of God and discipleship.
God has given the church or all Christians the power to serve. “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you” Acts 1:8 Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all Christians would believe as the Apostle Paul did? Our hospitals, mental institutions, prisons and local jails would be emptied. The homeless and heartless will be filled with everlasting joy, meat from the kitchen of Angels and shelter under cover of Gods wings (Psalms 91).
All God wants us to do is only believe and walk in the anointing of the Holy spirit. This is true evangelism and it is for today.
