Listening to God DEEP WITHIN
By: Rev. Carol Arvin
Busy World
With all the busyness in our world today, sometimes in order to hear the Lord’s voice in our lives we have to take a moment to listen to the small still voice within our inner most being.
Jesus taught that the kingdom of God is within us. (Luke 17:21). Also, Jesus declared, “out of thy belly shall flow rivers of living water”. (John 7:38).
Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice and I know them, and they follow me”. (John 10:27). Let us be careful to make it a point to follow the Holy Spirit within us so that we can be led of the Lord each and every day.
(John 1:12-13, Romans 8: 1-2)
Shhh… Listen
In 1Kings 19:11-13, even in the old testament we see in these scriptures where Elijah was told by the Lord to go upon the mount and stand before Him.
And, behold, the Lord passed by. There was a great and strong wind (mighty) rent (tore) the mountains, and break to pieces the rocks before the Lord;
But, the Lord was not in the wind. There was an earthquake; and then a fire; but, the Lord wasn’t in either one of those.
After the fire there was a small still voice.
When Elijah heard it he wrapping his mantle over his face went out and stood in the entering of the cave. And behold there came a voice to him, for the Lord spoke to him.
Elijah witnessed all the forces of nature being shaken all around him but, he knew that the Lord wasn’t in any of those distractions and manifestations however, when the Lord spoke to Elijah, Elijah knew His voice and he answered the Lord.
Elijah kept his focus on the Lords direction regardless of all the earth shaking forces that were rattling all around him and under him.
In these last days we need to be especially focused, vigilant and watchful not to be distracted by the cares of the world which surround us. Whether its forces of nature, our homes, businesses, work places, public gatherings, etc. we need to be in tune with the Holy Spirit within; and be sensitive to His leading.
Ours or someone else’s life could even depend on our hearing the Lord’s voice deep within our inner most beings.
