The Blessing of a Quiet Mind
1 Timothy 2:1-2
The year 2020, has bent America, almost to a breaking point. The entire world was hit with a pandemic called Covid 19, a manufactured virus from the Wuhan laboratory in China. President Trump, shut down and lock down America for sixty days in order to slow the spread. A judgment call which probably saved millions of lives. No one knows the statistics of suicide, alcohol, drug abuse or pregnancies, due in part of being shut in by lock downs. Especially in democratic states such as California, Michigan, and New York.
The temperament of American’s has increased to an almost apocalyptic level due in part the 2020 Presidential election, State and local government enforcement of mask wearing, not to mention civilian shaming for not wearing a mask or promoting President Trump, on hats, shirts and yard signs. The temperament of America and the world at large, is seen not only in large metropolitans, also on social media online such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.
In talking with people online and in person, I find that a quiet mind is a universal need. What surprises me even more is that it is a great need among Christians. The world will always have worry, and strife, but those in the church should not.
Why not? You may be asking.
Simply as Christians we should have the mind of Christ (1Corithians 2:16 KJV.)
The Secret of a Quiet Mind
When I write I do conduct a lot of research. After a few moments on Google, I see several articles like 14 ways to quiet your mind by webMD. One of their ways is to breathe deeply and slowly let it out. Another is to listen to music and yet another is to watch fish swim in the cool water of an aquarium. Another article suggested to remove your shoes while reading a book. While these maybe a good way to quiet your mind, I don’t know I have never practice them. I do know there is really only one way for a Christian to have a quiet mind and that is to read your bible and pray.
In order to have the mind of Christ we need to know the will of God. We get knowledge of this fact when we crack the pages of our bible and read chapter by chapter verse by verse from Genesis to Revelation. The bible is Christ documented (John 1:1 KJV.)
In the book of Proverbs Chapters one and two, Solomon writes about this subject.
1 Timothy 2: 1-2 reads.
1. I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2. For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
In order to have a Quiet mind, while reading and acting on the word of God (Your bible,) spending time in the presence of God, with all prayers and thanks for all men, and those in authority over local, state, and National Governments, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life. Even when your world is in turmoil, the peace of God will see you through.
I have been interceding over the 2020 election for my candidate. Recently, I received such a peace in my spirit about this subject that it doesn’t matter what the polls show, what the news says about it. I know, that I know that God is in control. I will not be moved.
Prayer For a Quiet Mind:
Our Heavenly Father, in the midst of this tumultuous season where each of us desire to play his part effectively and well, we must find the secret of inner peace and quietness; else there will be no strength in us. Knowing Power comes from your word and a quiet center, help us not to be so disturbed. Take our minds momentarily away into the great quiet place in your presence. This we pray that we might live, through faith, a quiet and peaceable life. Through, Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.
